Before the annual Opening Match on Sunday 28th March, Members are invited to the raising of the Club flag at 12:15pm, signalling the official opening of the season. Here we are in the hardest winter of the past 30 years in the Cairngorms with more snow than some of the recent Winter Olympic venues. The hard frosts and regular snowfalls of December and January were followed in late February by more heavy snowfalls - almost 3ft fell in 36 hours in late February, closing roads and even railways. As can be seen from the webcam the Course is still unplayable, but we're staying optimistic and hoping that it will be only a week or so before we can get the clubs out again!
Meanwhile new stocks of clubs, clothing and accessories are being delivered almost daily to the Pro Shop so, whether you are looking to replace your clubs this season or treat yourself to a sweater or golf shirt, pop along to see Ross and see what he has to offer!!
An annual publication listing various Opens - Ladies, Gents, Seniors, Mixed, Greensomes and other competitions at Clubs throughout Scotland. The Club has a small supply available (still only £3.50).
Despite heavy snow in the late afternoon and very difficult conditions both underfoot and on the roads the Captain, Malcolm McCreath, welcomed a good number of Members to this year's AGM in the Clubhouse on Tuesday 2nd February. Finance convener, Willie Gray, led the meeting through the Annual Accounts, after which he answered various questions from the floor, including the tricky subject of VAT, Partial Exemption and the de minimis rules! He finished by commenting on the healthy state of the Club's affairs.
Office Bearers were unanimously re-elected as recommended by the Council:
Club President: R.Mel Sim
Vice President: John A. MacBean
Club Captain: Malcolm J.R. McCreath
Vice Captain: James A. Grant
Standing down from the Council were Dr Willie Gray and Messrs Dougie Gordon and Fraser Sharp. Elected to the Council were Mrs Linda Ross and Messrs Iain Cormack and Steven Rooney.
The Captain reported on the progress of the Steering Group and, in particular, on plans to redevelop the Clubhouse to improve the changing facilities for both Members and visitors alike. Other major expenditure had been approved to create a service area on the course for the greenkeepers, which would begin in the Spring with a self-contained wash-bay area for course equipment.
The Club's annual newsletter "Boat's Log" has been published and distributed to all Members. If any Member has yet to receive their copy, please contact the Office and we'll send a replacement.
